Title: SMTP Proxy
Post by: lczaidan on April 24, 2006, 10:17:33 PM
Hi
I have several users on my LAN with e-mail addresses on several different ISPs. I don´t have a registered domain on my server. I can´t use smeserver SMTP Proxy feature because some ISPs are refusing mail from my server (ADSL connection) and I can´t use the redirection to my ISP SMTP server provided by Sever-Manager panel, because not all users have accounts on that ISP.

So, the question is: how do I disable SMTP Proxy service om SME 7.0? I was using SME 6.0.1 with SMTP Proxy disabled, works fine, but I think the HOW-TO provided by Michael Soulier didn´t work anymore, since smtpfront-qmail was deprecated.

Does turning it off in the Server-manager not solve it for you ?
(Located under security, proxy settings)

Just reading your post again, I still stand by my previous comment however, as you have written it, you only have one ADSL connection.

Can you not direct all email delivery via the smtp server of that ISP and use the fetchmail contrib at ttp://www.schirrms.net/sme/SMEFetchMail.php to retrieve email from the various ISP's

This works well for me but having said that, I am aware that ADSL is implemented in different ways in different countries.

you shouldn't need an account for outgoing. you just have to be physically connected to their network. which you are.

For most ISP's, you dont need all users to have an account with your ISP to hand outward mail.

I am aware there are some exceptions. I think fisrtly you should try it and deal with the remaining issues if or as they arise.

I´ve tried before (no sucess) to use the server-manager option to send all my e-mail thru the ISP´s SMTP, but I decided to give it a new try. No sucess again, mail bounced back saying "no relay allowed on this host". It´s right, since I´m trying to send mail from a user with account (and replay address) on ISP "A" thru the ISP "B" SMTP server.

But turning off the SME 7.0 SMTP proxy on the server-manager seems to solve the problem, since the e-mail client program on the user´s desktop is communicating directly with the user´s ISP, not my ISP.

Thanks for all the help received.

Cheers
