Title: Thunderbird and SME LDAP

Is there a way to use the SME LDAP server as my Thunderbird address book?

If so, is there a How-TO some where?

Yes there is ... click on Address Book ... file ... new ... LDAP Directory.

Call it what you want ... Hostname = server IP ... Base DN = dc=yourdomain name,dc=eg : net or com,dc=au if required.

Thats it ... click OK ... shut down TB and re-start it just to make sure.

Now when you search put an @ in the search field ... all the addresses should show.

TB has a groovy little addon that puts the address list down the side ... may want to check it out.

Regards,

Tib

Give that man a 'New'. :pint:

Worked just like you said.

However, can I move all my contact over so there accessible from any computer?

The directory in SME server is read-only - it's just a local user list lookup.

Hmm.  This is easier than I thought.  I had been messing with the Bind DN and whatnot and getting nowhere!

Now, wouldn't it be great if I could sync my Thunderbird addresses into this directory so that I could get them from Webmail as well.  My end goal is to have my user's personal address books on the SME instead of the desktop.  This makes sense for many reasons.  I understand this is not possible because the SME LDAP is local users only, correct?

Is there a contrib or otherwise that anybody has come across that makes storing your personal address book on the SME easy and accessible via WebMail?

I'm looking for the same. Is it possible to connect the Turba addressbook with Thunderbird or Outlook Express?
