I have a client running an application on the server with the application printing via the server itself. At the moment, I have a printer connected to the server via parallel port, and another printer in a remote office, connected to a workstation there (again parallel port), with the workstation connected via OpenVPN to the SME Server. Both print fine from the application. For the workstation-attached printer to work, I installed the Windows Unix printing (under "Optional Networking Components") and set the remote printer up in the server-manager. All of this is working fine.
My problem is with a second workstation-attached printer, in the main office. I've set it up the same way as the other; however, I get the "cannot open connection" message from the lp daemon when I try to print or view the queue. The significant difference between the two situations is that the second device is USB connected. I've ensured that the Windows service is running.
Can a USB connection make a difference, or should it work as does the remote printer?
This is on a 6.0 server.
Thanks,
