I am trying to access a windows XP machine with TIGHT VNC installed behind a SME 7.0 Server. I have forwarded the ports 5800 and 5900. I used this in the past on 6.0 and had no issue that I recall but now I am able to get the log in screen for TightVNC but once i try to log in I get server:5900 can not be contacted eventhough that port is forwarded to the XP machine also. Anyone have a clue and can hlep me resolve this.

SME 7 is still in the development. If you feel that portforwarding doesn't work as it should, then file the bug report.

I think it is only when you use the web browser as a client you use 2 ports for the TightVNC client. If you use the "native" TightVNC client you will only one port. By the way, the built in MS remote desktop is normally superior to TightVnc. (But not allways ..)

Are you able to VNC into the machine on the internal network?
Could the XP machine's firewall be turned on? I would think that if you are getting the logon screen that the firewall would not be blocking communication but . . .
In my experience once you get the logon screen your are good. I have had to restart a machine (desktop) when the VNC connection failed before it would work again. I think in that case I did get the logon screen but it would fail until the remote machine was rebooted.
Good Luck
