Title: SATA drive automatically boot to problem drive.
Post by: oldtony on May 14, 2006, 06:21:24 PM
I am so happy that SATA drives now work with SME. I have a case where a SATA drive has some bad spots on it & I would like to try to copy some data from it to another SATA drive. I have configured another SATA drive as the first drive & put the problem drive as the second drive. My plan was to boot from the first drive, then mount the second drive, then attempt to copy data from the second drive to the first drive.

SME automatically sees the second drive & tries to boot from it. Since it has problems the boot fails. When I disconnect the second drive (problem drive) it boots correctly.

How can I have it boot just to the first SATA drive & then mount the second and turn off the auto boot problem mentioned above.

thanks for you help

Perhaps you can boot the machine using a "liveCD" such as Knoppix http://www.knoppix.com , copy the data off your bad disk before trashing the failing disk.
