has somone already have a pb with software raid (sme 7rc2) after some day?
I have a server with 4 hard drive in raid 5, the installation was ok, it works about 1week and a half and then, it doesn't boot.
There's a kernel panic when trying to mount the file system:
md :do_md_run() returned -22
md: md2 stopped.
md: unbind<sda2>
md: export_rdev(sda2)
md: unbind<sdd2>
md: export_rdev(sdd2)
md: ...autorun DONE.
Making device-mapper control mode
Scanning logical volums
Reading all physical volumes. This may take a while...
cdrom: open failed.
No volume groups found
Activating logical volumes
cdrom: open failed.
Unable to find volume group "main"
ERROR: /bin/lvm exited abnormally! (pid 243)
Creating root device
Mounting root filesystem
mount: error 6 mounting ext3
mount: error 2 mounting none
Switching to new root
switchroot: mount failed: 22
umount /initrd/dev failed: 2
Kernel panic - not syncing: Attempted to kill init!
No updates were done, nothing change, just one day, it couldn't boot
I try to boot in rescue text mode with the cd but he cannot see any ext3 partition, so it can't mount it in /mnt/sysimage.
don't know if there's something to do.

I had a similar issue but it was caused by me playing with the Bios settings where I turned on Sata hardware RAID (Host Raid) on an IBM206M. Turning the host raid off again solved the issue. Have you changed anything in your setup?
-
No, I haven't change anything as the server was in production 500km far away and nobody touched it. But in fact, it seems that the problem comes from the motherboard's chipset (an intel 945G). I tried another intel chipset based motherboard (a 915 this time) on an other server without raid system and I had exactly the same problem. Looks like intel motherboards are not well supported

Red Hat nash version 4.2.1.6 starting
Reading all physical volumes. This may take a while...
No volume groups found
Unable to find volume "VolGroup00"
ERROR: /bin/lvm exited abnormally! (pid 199)
This doesn't look like a SME server. We don't ever create a volume group named VolGroup00. We used to create one called "vg_primary" and recently changed to "main".

In fact, it's not exactly the same, I copy/paste the message in the bug track no 698. I couldn't have the exact message because I haven't saw the message myself, it's just a person how describe me quikly the error by phone, I forgot to edit the post and to put the exact one, it's done now

Hello,
Be opinion that the Intel motherboard chipset have a BIOS option that crash my SME a lot of time !!!
You need to disable the option from Intel in the BIOS:

Hi Snoopysk can you tell me exactly wherei n the BIOS the setting is to disable. I have looked but cant find it. My pC is IBM 206 M (P4) which also uses Intel but I cannot find chipset number just yet.
