Title: User Names with periods (dots) and dashes
Post by: gavinm on May 22, 2006, 12:44:39 PM
I use SME server outside work - its excellent, thanks.

But like many people, I would really like to integrate an SME7 server into my work network which is a mix of Windows 2K servers SuSE Linux servers and WinXP Pro and Win98 clients.  My problem is the same as raised by many people here, that all client log-in user names are in the form "firstname.lastname".  ie with a "." dot / period in them.  This makes it impossible for me to consider integrating SME server into the exsisting network.

However I notice Gordon Rowell's comments in post :

refering to "feature request" :

I've read this bug report and I think it might be trying to say that the current version SME7rc2 now allows log-in user names with "." periods and "-" dashes?  But I'm not sure.

Can someone confirm whether this is now the case please?

Thanks, Gavin

I cannot at this moment, but the code changes are verified so it should work.

I can confirm that user names are now supported in the forms:

first.last
first-last
first_last

Thanks Dave,

So that's log-in user names of the form first.last (etc), NOT just email pseudonyms?

Great - Thanks again.

This will make SME server a practical option for a great many more users.
