Title: Rsync from Windows to SME7 for DR
Post by: CKConsulting on May 22, 2006, 05:01:35 PM
I'm trying to create a copy of the data on my windows 2000 server to an offsite SME7 box connected via hardware VPN's.

Any suggestions?  I was looking at NASbackup.com but can't figure out how to get rsync server working on SME.

I have a robocopy script that runs from the win box but rsync seems to run so much faster.

Hi Rick,
I'm presently doing this with sme6.0.1 using cwrsync. Can't remember the details off hand but I think I run cwrsync as a service on the 2k box and the sme server synchronises a couple of shared directories into an ibay using rsync. Can't see why it wouldn't work on sme7. I can post my win2k rsyncd.conf if you're interested. Over the next couple of weeks I'm going to have to upgrade the sme6 so I'll write a proper howto when I do the upgrade.
Regards Lloyd

Hi - I did a cwrsync/rsnapshot (http://mirror.contribs.org/smeserver//contribs/dthomas/smeserver/6.x/Contrib/rsnapshot/) howto a while back that might be of use.

Thanks, I'll try it.

Lloyd,
Yes, I'd like to see your rsyncd.conf file.
