The automatic updater has been broken for quite a while and I have noticed that out of the ~6400 users of SA 3.1.0 only ~1500 has updated to 3.1.1. Now a 3.1.2 maintenance release is out and I suggest you all update.
First update the USA script.
# rpm -Uvh http://sme.swerts-knudsen.com/downloads/SpamFilter/e-smith-USA-0.4.5-1.noarch.rpm
The set the primary download server.
# /sbin/e-smith/db altiplano setprop USAprimary url http://mirror.contribs.org/smeserver/contribs/swerts-knudsen/SpamFilter
Then eiither await the automatics update of force one by issuing:
# /usr/sbin/USA

Many thanks. I did the first two steps yesterday and automatic update occurs this night.
- spamassassin-3.1.2-1.i386.rpm
- spamassassin-tools-3.1.2-1.i386.rpm
- perl-Mail-SpamAssassin-3.1.2-1.i386.rpm
- sme-spamfilter-1.3.0-1.noarch.rpm
I hope it will improve spam filtering which was not more very good last time.

Thank you Jesper, your work is appreciated.
A word of warning to many who will update.
If you have users with forward to addresses configured, then these will be reconfigured automatically by the spam filter upgrade to use procmail/local delivery (thus the forwards will stop working), so be prepared to manually reconfigure any forward to addresses.

That is correct if you are running with an older version of the sme-spamfilter and that RPM gets updated. If you run with the most recent (1.3.0) then no config change will occure and only Spamassassin will be updated.

I'm new to updating SME, although I've been playing around with it for some time now.
When I run Makefile.PL on the new SpamAssasin package, I get a bunch of warnings that various modules are out of date or not installed. How do I go about updating them (ie Net::DNS, libnet, Mail::SPF::Query, etc).
I'm running SME Server v6.0.
thanks for any help!

It seems that you have not installed the complete package - No Makefile.pl should be executed. This can be done via this Howto:

Thanks for the confirmation/clarification.
I was running sme-spamfilter-1.2.2-1.noarch.rpm and the users config did get changed when I manually updated to your latest version (sme-spamfilter-1.3.0-1.noarch.rpm).
It's good to know that won't be a problem in future.
Thanks

Knuddi - that was really helpful. Followed your directions and got Spamassasin working on my server no problems.
Nice to have spam-free e-mail again!
Just curious - do you have any other methods and tools you've customized for SME server? For instance, Webalizer?

cburgett,
Check out sme.swerts-knudsen.com for different Howtos - I use AwStats rather than webalizer.

awesome...thanks for the info.
In looking at my headers, I see "autolearn" - is that somerthing we can use? I don't see anything for it in the server-manager panel you so nicely created.
Also...off-topic...but is SME 6.0 configured to process third-party e-mail, ie is third-party relay active on the server? I'm currently blacklisted and trying to get off the list...I'm hoping I can disable it if it is....
