Title: New server and hardware. What about my data

Hey all

I am so lucky, that i have are more powefull machine, i want to use, for my sme 7 rc1. I now know, that SME is the future for me.  (I want to use one off my MS SBS for that job. The other one, i just power off)

The old p3 400 mhz (My SME server) is going to be change to are littel more powefull machine... But from Intel to AMD

I have look on the forum to se who other have done the job. To get there data over from the old one to the new one...

There is no problems in to use the old HDD (2 x 180 gb).

So can i just take, the old HDD and put in the new server. And only use the 2 old HDD in Raid. And them maybe, run are configure or download SME 7 rc2 and then make are upgrade?...

Then i can use the old 400 mhz to test. (P3 400 mhz, 128 mb ram, 2 x 250 gb HDD)

Hope that you can give me some info for the job

From which system are you upgrading? SME 6.x? Or is this going to be a migration (from MS-SBS -> SME)?

Upgrading is described all so often here. I you are migrating, download your emails and Profiles and Data to a WS, install SME 7, install users and restore Data to server.

Don't forget to change all your MS-Windows WS from Domain to any Workgroup, if you are using a PDC/Domain security.

When i going to use the new server system, i want to upgrade from SME 7 rc1 to SME 7 rc2. They old HDD have SME 7 rc1 installet.

I was thinking about. Just to take, the 2 old Hdd out off the Old server and use   they 2 Hdd in the new server. And when i first time powe up the system. I then run are upgrade, whit SME 7 rc2?

I have download all data, email to are workstation. And the MS- Win i dont use any more. I just have them. (Old licens. And if i want to use MS i have to buy new licens and software. But i dont have the money for that)

Hi Beeboob,

That is exactly what I did, took my HDD out of the old PC and installed it in the new PC then booted to CD and chose the upgrade option, everything worked fine. BUT MAKE SURE YOU HAVE BACKED UP THE IMPORTANT DATA to another source!!!! Good luck.

Thanks del.. I backup my data....

If i can do the job, that way.

Then i am going to be happy,,, so i just have to get some Ice cream :)

I went very well...

I just take the 2 hhd out, and put them i then "new" server..  And it is running..

Only littel problem, is whit some of the domains..

But that is are job i then weekend
