Title: Primary Domain Name Queiry
Post by: BeeKeeper on May 29, 2006, 09:37:29 PM
When setting up the SME 7 Server, do I enter the Domain name I already have in the Primary Domain Name box or can I put anything I wish here? I hold the Domain Name: www.allgraphics.co.uk. Should this be entered?
Help would be appreciated

Hi

I'd suggest using your real DNS name: allgraphics.co.uk.

M$ and some other DNS incapables suggest you use domainname.local, instead of - in your case - allgraphics.co.uk.

If your SME isn't your public Web server, you'll have to go in Server manager to hostnames and addresses, and modify the "www.allgraphics.co.uk" entry to point to "remote" and add in your IP there. If your provider didn't give you an IP, only a name, you can use say:

nslookup www.allgraphics.co.uk dns3.bluewin.ch (=213.171.193.46)

The Bluewin Server happens to be open, meaning anyone can query it (Not ideal, but server a purpose here...).

The same goes if SME isn't your Mail Server.

YMMV
