Title: Two problems
Post by: gromit60 on June 06, 2006, 01:59:44 PM
I have installed SME Server 7.0rc3 in Server and gateway mode dedicated with pppoe on external NIC and using a dynamic dns hostname.
There are two problems:
1. browsers on clients can access internet only if proxy on SME server is on and set in IE
2. mail clients can't reach pop3 servers and can't fetch the mail directly.
3. Trying to ping internet domains fails from the lan clients.

Ooopss, problems are three, not two... sorry!

Can anyone help me?

All of those problems would be seen if you had the wrong gateway setting on the client machines.

I set all the clients to take their IP address via dhcp (the dhcp server is sme). Previously the gateway was an Ipcop with the same IP address.
E.g.: ipcop -> 192.168.0.1 -> sme server

pppoe suggests phone company security!

I just finished a nightmare install where somehow the phone company routed mydomain.com to THEIR server instead of mine ! Result was no email from any phone company ISP clients, other isp clients were fine!

Another problem is port blocking by the ISP
