I have VPN working with network access to the SME server. (network shares) (The SME server and the XP Pro are in LMHOSTS)
I have an XP Pro joined to the SME domain and logged in with a domain account.
I have file and printer sharing exception checked on the XP Pro Firewall.
When My laptop is physically next to the XP Pro I have network access.
I get access denied when I try to get to the XP Pro thru VPN.
I figure everyone using VPN has solved this problem, but I haven't found a solution.
If I am asking a question that's already answered, please point me in the right direction.
Thanks for any help with this great software

I found a way that wouldn't work in MS. I joined the XP-Home laptop to the SME Workgroup. The XP-Pro workstation is joined to the SME domain.
The SME Server puts them together!! Now I have network access. I still don't have remote access, but I'll bet it is coming.
Great stuff!!

Wow! Remote works.
I haven't loaded the final version of 7 yet, but for home use with a dynamic IP address, ( where you can't really use Exchange server anyway) this is at least as good as SBS.
Great work!!

I've just got my PPTP tested successfully. I would like to take full advantage of the services that this setup can offer. I've read this thread a number of times and still don't quite understand what your setup is.
The only thing I had to do to make the connection was to make sure the remote PC had the same workgroup. Once connected, I saw the SME server, printer and the shares. As for dynamic IP, Dyndns.com can take care of that.

The big danger in answering your own questions is that nobody else understands the question or the answer.
In the first post I listed the things I had done to get network access to the XP-pro workstation that resides behind my SME server. I could see and access shares on the server but I was still denied access to the network shares on the workstation.
In the second post I detailed the change that allowed network access to the workstation. I still didn't have remote access. In the third post I basically told my betters that I had found my way into remote access.
The comment about dynamic IP address refers to my experience that most email filters block email from a dynamic address. An exchange server (part of the SBS) that can't send email everywhere is wasted.

I didn't know that some mail servers block dynamic ip's.
Cool

The normal solution to your outgoing email problem would be to set your SBS (or SME, for that matter) to use your ISP's SMTP server for outgoing email.
