No, not for me unfortunately.

Not sure what you want to do at the client with a "fax answer command"?
Hylafax is a very good fax (server) solution and you can set it up for sending and receiving! You define what to do with a recieved fax which is usually to send it as an email with the fax attached (pdf or tiff format) to a predefined email address.

Does that help?

You lost me with that. Sorry, can't help.
Since there were no other responses, I would try to describe the problem more general and ask the question differently - that might bring someone else into the game.

I think the idea is to put Hylafax into a "manual" mode (since the pstn line is shared voice/fax) then, when someone wants to send them a fax, they can hit a button on the windows client to manually answer the incoming fax which in turn will send the faxanswer command to the Hylafax server. Unfortunately I can't see anything that will do the job apart from ssh.

you can install asterisk@home, the software picks up a telephone line, listens whats on the other line, if it is a fax, it picks up the fax, makes an pdf of the fax and mails it to your mailbox. If there is a normale phone, it asterisk connects it to your phone. You never have to switch the fax on and of, it goes automatically.
