The problem is that custom iso's will not be supported by future official upgrades of sme7.
This happened with the popular sme 6.0.1 PLUS iso, many users have had many problems upgrading to sme7 from that version of sme6, as there were many unsupported & incompatible contribs installed.

Okay Thanks Ray
But i think this v.7.0 wil last a very long time
so the same contribs could hold for as long as before in v.6.0.01
dont you think.

The issue is not whether the contribs work with v7.0 or not, it's whether they work or are compatible with future updates of sme 7, eg a contrib may require a certain version of rpm (dependencies) and this new version gets installed as part of the v7.0 PLUS iso.
When upgrade time comes, this new rpm is not compatible with existing rpms in the base release etc etc.

v7.0 will likely be upgraded many times during its life. v 7.1 release is already on the drawing boards.
There is a complex interdependency of rpms involved, that's why there is a base release that is called stable, it works as it should, an dfuture upgrade releases will upgrade correctly as they should.

When you introduce other non official major changes (such as I assume you mean in a v7 PLUS type iso), then you risk seriously affecting the stability, particulary when upgrade time comes around.

I'm just saying there have been many problems with users upgrading to the latest and the greatest in the sme 6.0.1 PLUS iso, and that a lot of those users are now sorry they upgraded to an unofficial release, so be careful about repeating the same mistake.

Thanks for the answer Ray
You are right many things can go wrong when we put
extra contribs in i know for shure i have tried them ALL
and many times given up and re installed the stable ver
again and started again i am glad i dont have 300 servers
spreeded around the country as many have if i had it would
be the version with the smallest extra contribs in or as you
say the stable ver.
So it could easely be upgraded when things change.
My experiense is when you put somthing extra in fks CMS
Mambo xoops crm  and many more the program call home
many times witout you knowing that I think for upgrades or
statistics and i dont like this when i am not in control
of it its the same with MS-BILL :-)

Gordon,

can we rename this thread? It's a little misleading at the moment.... :-)
