Title: SMTP Server issues
Post by: psychodave on July 10, 2006, 06:21:51 AM
I am having trouble sending e-mails through my server.

When I am connected directly to the internet, I can send e-mails straight to smtp.sbcglobal.yahoo.net.

smtp.sbcglobal.yahoo.net requires authentication.  So I provide a username and password.

When I connect through my server, it appears that my client send the e-mail without authenticating.  And the message appears in my sent folder.  Although, it does not go anywhere.

How can I set up my server to be transparent, or not use any e-mail functionality and just send my e-mails?

Any help is appreciated.

sme 6 did not support authentication, it was introduced with sme 6.5.
Your easiest solution is to upgrade to sme7

Read the sme 6 release notes (on CD) re how to disable smtp proxy, and you can send mail direct to your ISP then, using the client to authenticate.
You then loose the virus protection that the smtp proxy gives you.
