Title: More domain confusion
Post by: mgoodridge on July 18, 2006, 04:55:28 PM
I think I have the same problem as energyradio (18 Feb 06). I have just installed SME Server 7.0 as a firewall/DHCP server and installed Dans Guardian. I named the local domain exactly the same as my public domain. Once the firewall was up and running I could not get to the remotely hosted web site of my public domain. All I got was a "Web site under construction" page.

I went into Hostnames and Addresses in Server Manager and made www.mywebsite.org a remote location with the correct IP address. No change.

Then I deleted the www.mywebsite.org host name entry in Server Manager and the browser (Firefox 1.5.0.4) couldn't find any web site at all when directed at my web site.

Am I correct in assuming that my problem (unable to browse to my web site from the LAN behind my new SME firewall) is due to the fact that the domain on my SME server and the domain for my web site have identical names?

Can I safely go into the server console and change the name of my local domain back to the default (mydomain.local) on the fly and not have any drastic problems with my firewall, bring down my LAN, or otherwise ruin the rest of my day?

Thanks
