Title: BACKUP2 USB taking a long time to complete
Post by: vesnick on July 22, 2006, 01:40:47 AM
Hi Guys,
I am very pleased with SME 7 and all the contribs. My homeserver is working well. I am using DMay's backup2 USB on a P3 1Ghz with USB1.1. I have set the compression to "0" and the rar file sizes are 1500mb each. Each 1500mb rar takes aprox 1 hour to complete. The backup finishes ok and all the data it backed up is fine. At this rate 80gb takes aprox 53 hours. I'm backing up Ibays. Is this normal?
If I had a usb2 card on the server it would take aprox 26hours for 80gb.
What options do I have to dramatically cut down the backup time?

Regards Nick

USB 1.1 has a transfer rate @ 12Mbps.. (1.200kb/sec or so)

You will have to use a USB 2.0 to transfer files faster, I think its 480Mbps.

VIRTUS,  Thanks for the reply.

I should have checked the USB 2 Specs.
I assumed only a small speed change from USB  1 to 2.

I'll slip one in and report back here.
