Title: Forward Email to Exchange Sever from SMEServer
Post by: jeevsey on July 24, 2006, 05:01:53 PM
Hi,

Please I hope someone can help with this question.

I currently have installed an SME Server & an Exchange Server 2003.

What I am attempting to do is to send email to the Primay MX (SME Server) filter the emails and store a copy on the SME server. However I would also like the same emails sent to my Exchange Server and stored here also.

So lets say my domain is   my.company.co.uk  and I have installed both the SME server and Exchange Server 2003 as my.company.co.uk when I try to forward emails on to Exchange 2003 I obviously get a return to sender email stating the email was already sent and was caught in a loop etc...

I understand I could use virtual domains, but is there another way having to avoid using Virtual domains and get it to work as per my original set up.

I hope someone can Help

Many Thanks

Jeevsey

.. I believe there is a qpsmtpd plugin that will allow a copy of all email passing through the server to be dropped into an account on the SME box; I seem to recall reading about it on the forums somewhere.

To use Exchange just open the Email menu in the server manager & put the IP of the Exchange server in the option "Address of internal mail server ".

In V6 you had to populate the SME user list with the email addresses to match those on the Exchange box otherwise they would be rejected, I don't know if this is any different on V7.

If you follow MS best practice (a bit of a contradiction in terms I know) they recommend using a "split brain" DNS config where the Windows box uses a local DNS nomenclature and then the DNS & other services are massaged to work with the Internet as required.  In Exchange you would need to tell it to be responsible for the public domain mail on top of the local domain otherwise it will reject it; DNS would likewise need to be configured to be responsible for the Internet domain (this keeps the AD stuff local).

Dear All

In conjunction with the option "Address of internal mail server ", you would also use the Bcc database setting
see
http://forums.contribs.org/index.php?topic=31374.0

config setprop qpsmtpd Bcc enabled BccUser xxx@domain.com
signal-event email-update
