I recently got a cable modem with one dhcp provided non static ip address and set up an e-smith server to provide security and connectivity for three other machines.
I have found that I cannot check my email from the cable company however after adding a dns server address to one of my clients (win98) (207.200.73.80) I was able to check my old ISP email account.
I have also had problems connecting to microsoft sites on and off.
Can anyone shed some light on my delema. I'm not great with linux however I can follow directions very well and know my windows (9x & NT) stuff very well.
Thanks in advance.

You obviously have some trouble with DNS resolution on the e-smith server. I've never seen that, and can't think what the problem might be.
On your win98 system, run "winipcfg" and check that your e-smith server IP address is listed as a name server address.
On the e-smith server, log into the system as root - Alt-F3, "root", admin password, and check that name resolution is working there:
nslookup www.microsoft.com
exit
