Title: Dual booting - is it possible??
Post by: Scott Lewis on January 28, 2002, 08:23:44 PM
Has anyone been able to install e-smith on   system that has say a Windows partition, and not delete it on install, hence creatinga  dual boot system?

If so, how?

Thanks, but....

Alsot of the issues were aimed at a Compaq PC, eg with memory.

Is anyone planning on doing a HowTo or is the option to install on a  partition planned for a future release of e-smith.

Same thing. How you partition is up to you. You don't have to make a compaq diagnostic partition if you don't want to. In contrast to the compaq diag solution, you normally should put lilo in MBR, but for the rest there's no difference.

I tried it at home and it worked fine!
Except!!!!!
When I rebooted my system after the packages were installed it didn't get to runlevel 7 for configuration.
It got to runlevel 3 and now I don't know what to do anymore  :-(
Help!!!!

Looks like %post didn't run. Maybe due to a lousy windows editor. Look at the rest of the compaq thread for the solution. Don't delete too many lines from kickstart or %post won't run.

Sorry, what %post? Is it also in the ks.cfg?
As far as I know I only deleted the lines mentioned.
If there is a sollution how exactly can I find it?

I saw another post

wich has the same symptoms I have.

Have a look at this
http://forums.contribs.org/index.php?topic=12549.msg47105#msg47105
and the rest of the thread.
Then try the solution 'sampei' and Chaloner describe with a REAL editor and if the problem still persists, yes, you may have a different problem. By the way, I assume you checked the iso's md5sum after download to verify that you've got the image intact?

Worked like a charm!!
I think my problem had something to do with the windows editor I used.
Now did it with vi.
Or was it because I didn't place the boat loader in the MBR anymore?!??

Don't know don't care anymore!

Last possible case is that maybe these sorts of things just happen every once and a while....

Especially with me ;-)

ThnX everybody and speak to you later...
