News SME7 used as a file server with some 15 workstations using a number of ibays extensively to perform audio editing etc. The system has been up and running for a few days. I noticed a number of entries in messages, copy below.
"rroom4" is a windows 2000 workstation
"show" is an ibay on the server accessed by the worksation.
The server is configured as Domain controllers, WINS are entered in all workstations.
I am not sure what the mesages below mean, they happen infrequently, and to date, users have not reported any issues....
Can anyone shed lights on this?
Many thnaks for any assistance.

Just picked-up something...
The ibay name in the logs is "show"
The actual ibay created on the server is in fact "shows"
Checking all such entries, It is clear that the lines found in the logs take place for a number if ibays for which the last letter has been truncated. I have entries for "talk" when the ibay is actually called "talks" and so on.
All shared resources on the windows 2000 workstations are mapped to virtual drive, and so the possibility of someone typing the name of a share incorrectly is remote.
Adding to the mystery...

Hi Chris,
I think (haven't got machine to check this) but this warning message is purely to tell you that if you have a group setup with some users and set the group access for your ibay then anyone outside that group who has not got access to that ibay will result in that log message.
-
Thanks Byte. I checked this, when trying to access an ibay for which a user does not have permission (not in group), you get:
Aug 10 08:53:08 sme7 smbd[31728]: [2006/08/10 08:53:08, 0] smbd/service.c:set_current_service(51)

OK, according to this thread looks like its related to the windows 2000 client...

We should probably raise a bug and check our version of samba.
-
Thanks Byte. Good to see that I am not the only one. Looking like a problem upstream, Do you want me to raise a bug? Should be documented if anything, what do you think?

Raised as...
