Chaloner,
:-?
I want to uninstall hylafax on my SME server 7.0 and install it again, or please tell me why is it that when I run faxsetup I get the following messages:
Setup program for HylaFAX (tm) 4.3.0.
Created for i686-pc-linux-gnu on Tue May 30 12:40:28 EDT 2006.
Reading cached parameters from /var/spool/hylafax/etc/setup.cache.

program resides in a different location and you do not want to
install a symbolic link for /sbin/mgetty that points to your program
then you must reconfigure and rebuild HylaFAX from source code.

Warning: /usr/share/ghostscript/fonts does not exist or is not a directory!
The directory /usr/share/ghostscript/fonts does not exist or this file is not a directory.
This is the directory where the HylaFAX client applications expect to
locate font metric information to use in formatting ASCII text for
submission as facsimile. Without this information HylaFAX may generate
illegible facsimile from ASCII text.
How do I uninstall it or how do I fix the problem above?
Please reply quickly because I really need to get it running now.

I would need a bit more information...
Hardware??? CPU??? What did you use to install it? I have never seen any of what you are showing me here so I must assume it was not done right.... EVENTHOUGH it should install in minutes...
I can fix it (most likely) in minutes with root access....
Email me at email@chaloner.ca and I will try to help...

You know - installing Hylafax is dead easy.
Download the current rpm
Then do
# yum --enablerepo=base --enablerepo=updates localinstall nameofhylafax.rpm
# faxsetup

I'm getting exactly the same errors, on a vanilla SME7 (with the latest patches as at November 2006).
The errors are right: /sbin/getty does not exist, and is not anywhere else on the server. Same for vgetty and egetty, and the ghostscript fonts (/usr/share/ghostscript/fonts).
I've not really got a clue where to start, since the script is supposed to "just work" (it just doesn't, I guess).

PS I'm trying removing the package and starting again:
yum --enablerepo=base --enablerepo=updates remove hylafax-4.3.0-2rhel4.i386

Yeah - seemed to go okay. It did not make the errors go away, but the end result does appear to work (perhaps making the removal of the RPM a bit of a red herring).
I get all the same warnings as you when adding a modem, but it does not affect Hylafax's ability to receive faxes. I suspect it may be a different case sending faxes, with the missing fonts. I think the fonts need to be installed manually. Without the fonts, I suspect creating cover pages would be a little harder (maybe check out the FaxRelay contrib to see if that adds any of these missing files).
So in short - just ignore the warnings, and see if what gets installed provides you with the functionality you need.

You need to remove the faxgetty entry as well;
rm -f /etc/e-smith/templates-custom/etc/inittab/S85hylafax
/sbin/e-smith/expand-template /etc/inittab
/sbin/init q
I have installed this MANY MANY TIMES and have never seen any errors. So I am wondering WHAT THE HECK is going on with these installs showing errors all over the place. There should not be any... We are talking about SME7 here I hope.

Well - like I pointed out in an earlier post. It should be as simple as downloading the most current rpm from the hylafax (http://www.hylafax.org/content/Red_Hat_Packages) site and do as follows.
yum --enablerepo=base --enablerepo=updates localinstall nameofhylafax.rpm
This will resolve and install all required dependencies.

Getting the same errors on a clean sme v7 install. Followed the chaloner download and guide. Remove & re-installed rpm, still the same problems.
Can't send faxes out, WHFC can't connect to server.

HylaFAX configuration parameters are:
[1] Init script starts faxq: yes
[2] Init script starts hfaxd yes
[3] Start old protocol: no
[4] Start paging protocol: no
Are these ok [yes]?
My specs: Intel P4 3.0GHz, 1Gb RAM, 160Gb SATA disk, used same CD for all previous installs, hylafax working O.K. on other systems.
