hav created accounts and tested it thru local network and
all user emails can be accessed and it works fine...
but when i try to access it over my vsat live ip address so the actual
users can have online access to it then there is a problem...
this occurs when i try 2 configure outlook to have desired access....
it passes all the tests except sendin a test email and 2nd is that it says

i av tested the live ip addy with my laptop and it sends and recieves packets so the whole thing works...

server-manager:
- E-mail
- Change e-mail access settings
Change POP3 &/or IMAP to "Allow private and public (secure...)"
- E-mail
- Change e-mail access settings
Change "SMTP Authentication" to "Allow SSMTP (secure)"
Now configure your off-site clients to use pop3s (port 995) or imaps (port 993) to download mail, and authenticated ssmtp (port 465) to send mail.

What email client?
In Outlook 2003, for example:
- Don't use "Log on using Secure Password Authentication (SPA)"
- Do use "This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL)" for the Incoming mail server on the Advanced tab of the "More Settings" options.
- Do use "This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL)" for the Outgoing mail server, then change the Outgoing server (SMTP) port setting from 25 to 465
- Do select "My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication" and "Use same settings as my incoming server" on the "Outgoing Server" tab of the "More Settings" option.

i can access the account and send mail... but i cannot recieve emails...
The possibilities are endless...
Is your server configured to accept emails using SMTP (server-manager / "E-mail" / "Change e-mail reception settings")?
If so, is your DNS configured to route email to your IP address?
If so, is your system configured to accept email for the domain name that is being routed to you by DNS? (server-manager / "Domains")
What errors do you get, if any?
What do the log files on the SME box say? (E-mail receipt of handled by "qpsmtpd" and "qmail", so there are the logs to look at...)
if i log into the webmail via :http://localhost/webmail
How do you access webmail on localhost?

Are you sure that the outside world can see your new mail server? And that your ISP is allowing mail server access?
Sometimes the mail server actually processing mail isn't the server we expect! I've got several sites where you cannot use SME for both POP and SMTP because the ISP blocks it.
Also, did you reconfigure your domain for the new server?

hello...
the webserver is accessed thru http://192.168.0.10/webmail ... internally..
i think the problem is that there is already a domain that exists that is
the same as mine, which is fct.gov.ng....
therefore i think that the outside world cant see my new mail server...
i am not sure exactly how to go bout this cos the ppl at the fct(federal capital territory) here have no clue about what to do if i did ask them....
now am not exactly sure who their isp is but that would not be of any help cos my company are the ones hanling the fct now....
therefore how do i go about making it such that if mail is to go there then it redirects it to my vsat live ip address which is 196.200.8.51 ...
thanx alot 4 the help guyz....

.. the DNS setup for that domain has some major issues, see:
http://www.dnsreport.com/tools/dnsreport.ch?domain=fct.gov.ng
This will need to be fixed ASAP before you stand a chance of getting anything like a reliable setup.
