Title: How to enable hdparm?
Post by: irian on August 23, 2006, 08:40:21 PM
Hello,

Installed a SME7 server with 2x250Gb Samsung IDE disks.
The synchronisation is taking extremely long.
It has been running since this morning at 8 and now 12 hours later it's only at 20%.

The maindboard is an ASUS CUR-DLS.
The mainboard-manual tells me about the IDE controller:

Quote
Supports UltraDMA/33, PIO Modes 3&4 and Bus Master IDE DMA Mode 2....

This is the raid config:

Personalities : [raid1]
md2: active raid1 hdd2[2] hda2[0]
md1: active raid1 hdd1[1] hda1[0]

My questions:
#1
How can I enable the DMA with hdparm? What command?

#2
Can I enable the DMA on a system that is in the synch process, or do I wait until that is finished first?

Any help is much appreciated!

Irian

In etc/sysconfig/harddisk find EXTRA_PARAMS=

Put there: EXTRA_PARAMS="-a4096 -u1 -k1 -d1 -c3 -m16 -W1"

This speeds things up ;)
