Title: SME Server Copyright & Copyright information
Post by: guest22 on August 28, 2006, 12:44:56 PM
All,

Is the Copyright statement of the Open Source version of SME Server 7.x in the server-manager (and/or in general) correct?

I am confused as to the status of SME Server Inc. (representing contribs.org developers) regarding Copyright mentioning. (contribs.org does NOT have a MAS6000) Shouldn't the copyright be more specific? or is it 'wrong' as it is now?

There is NO mentioning or link to SME Server Inc. / Contribs.org or any of the contribs.org developers/community.

I am referring to SME Server 7.x which has it's home at SME Server Inc. and contribs.org and is being developed and distrubuted under the GPL license.

Have you raised a bug?

I feel this is not a 'programming' or 'technical' bug. Trying to discuss this with the broad public of SME Server Inc. / contribs.org as an open discussion.

But its still a Software bug, as the GPL licence is within the software, isn't it?!

I'll move it if I have more 'prove' of my thoughts, before bothering the buglist.

Meanwhile, would you share your thought on this matter please?

FWIW the only issue I think the community could have may be in the inclusion of the Mitel commercial release paragraph. In the true spirit of a community release, this one paragraph might best be dropped.

Whatever your direct issue is, I suggest you make an SME 7.x Future bug report. This is the only way to reach the core development team.

This thread continues here:

I can not make this sticky, but I do feel this discussion is worth to advertise to a broad public. Can someone make this sticky please?

HF - As you can see on the bug report, Gordon has acknowledged the lack of "Copyright 2006 SME Server, Inc" on that page, and it will be fixed at some point, as is the purpose of the bug tracker.  Please don't get worked up about it - it was a simple omission, not a conspiracy.  There is no need to make this post "sticky".

I agree. And to be clear, the issue here is quite simple - the text hasn't been updated since the 6.0 release and it is completely under "our" control to update. We should acknowledge the contributions of those who have made this project possible.

This link does not work - Do Mitel still actually sell 6000MAS? I believe it is no longer sold in EMEA, but am unsure as to its non-EMEA state.
