Title: SME File Server question
Post by: treydock on August 30, 2006, 06:27:41 PM
I need

network shares
backup storage of local computers, website and any other important data
store email from SME email server (if that is possible...is it?)
possibly ftp

Can SME do all that relatively easily?  Or say I use Win2k3 , can SME transfer data to be stored on a server running the Win2k3 OS?

Never done file sharing on a large scale so I don't even know where to begin.

Thanks
Trey.

SME can do all the things you requested.

I am not sure I understand the Win2k transfer data question. I guess I would say it this way, you can have a windows share from the SME to the Win2k machine. Anything that can be copied to a shared drive can be copied to and from the SME.

Email can be stored using IMAP instead of POP for your e-mail server type or setting POP to not remove messages from the server.

filesharing can be done on a workgroup with a mapped drive at a per workstation level or in a domain at the network level.

If you look at the contributors to this site you will find several that contract to set up services as you describe.
