Title: Authenticate Against SME7 LDAP
Post by: aux2006 on August 31, 2006, 03:25:12 AM
Hi,

We don"t have much experience yet with linux.  Due to high cost in OS we are looking on rolling out Ubuntu or Suse Linux, but we have several things to tackle:

1.  How can we authenticate Linux (Suse or Ubuntu) against SME LDAP Machine?  What settings we need to put, in the LDAP authtencation options? Pointing us to an example would be a great help, or any example will be a great help too.

2. How can we mass create users? we will be migrating around 2000 user accounts.

Thank you very much,
aux

You can not IMHO authentiate against LDAP as this feature is not yet provided with SME Server, I seem to remember there was a thread recently to authenticate *nix like systems with LDAP, but this was not so evident as SME Server is maily intended to use with MS Windows clients, this is one of the threads (http://forums.contribs.org/index.php?topic=33383.0). Do a seacht for "authenticate linux" to get more.

Look for the lazy admin tools in the contribs section (http://no.longer.valid/phpwiki/index.php/SME7Contribs), I believe this is a set of scripts to add users by batch.

Thank you for that prompt reply!

That means we have to look for some other solutions with regard to this.

Have a great day!

SME is great, hope this will evolved into an all around network server soon.
