Title: Restore from SME 5.6
Post by: midac1 on September 05, 2006, 04:41:34 AM
Have run a stable 5.6 installation for a few years. Wold like to upgrade to 7. What is the method of getting the data across from the 5.6 installation. Can one do and upgrade to preserve data, or restore from a 5.6 backup?

I don't know if a direct upgrade from 5.6 to 7.0 is supported, but the iso for SME 6.0.1 is still on the mirrors, eg. from
http://mirror.contribs.org/smeserver/releases/6.0.1/iso/
so you could upgrade from 5.6 to 6.0.1 (which is supported) and then upgrade from 6.0.1 to 7.0 (which is also supported).

As usual, the upgrade secret of success is to disable/uninstall your server customisations before making the upgrade and then re-install them in the new version.
