Title: Install exited abnormally
Post by: Destiny on February 08, 2002, 07:35:28 AM
I have been using a dedicated e-smith server for about a year.  The server software has worked great.  The hard drive on this machine however DIED.  I decided to get a better system and upgrade to the newest version, but I can't get it to install.  As soon as you type in proceed with the new installation CD , the message, "install exited abnormally -- received signal 11 --- sending termination signals.. etc...
and then says "may safely reboot your system".  Does anyone have any idea what might be causing this?  The new system is a real work horse in comparison to the old 500 mhz  system.  Its 950 mhz with 256 mb ram and a 40 gb HD.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi,

The last time I saw this exact message, I tracked the problem to an incompatibility between the motherboard and the SDRAM module I was using. Changed RAM and the install went fine.

One a bit stupid reason of "signal 11" message could be not properly downloaded .iso file. Actually that hapened in my case. I've burned CD then tried install on an old computer MMX200/64/850 and got "signal 11". I changed RAM chips and even CPU box was changed. Without any success. It is plenty of cases for "signal 11" error described in the net and usualy hardware problems are mentioned as main reason of "signal 11" error. But. I have read some comments about possible CD problems. Then downloaded .iso again that had exactly same size as in previous case. Then burned CD. And finally I got an installation on MMX200/64/850 :o)
