Title: Resizing SME 7 Partition under VMWare - How?
Post by: mudtoe on October 05, 2006, 08:59:10 PM
Hi folks:

I've got SME 7 running under VMWare, and I'm looking to resize the partition to a larger size.  I've already run the VMWare utiltiy to expand the size of the virtual disk, but I can't find a utility that will allow the resizing of the partition within the VM.  I tried Acronis Disk Director Suite, but it doesn't like the linux raid type partition that SME server created.  I've looked at parted, but from the documentaiton it doesn't look like it supports that partition type either.

I suppose I could do the supplied backup, reinstall from scratch, and do a restore, but I was hoping to find a tool that would do the expand in place, like what can be done with a linux ext2 or windows NTFS partitions.

Suggestions?

Thanks,

mudtoe

P.S.  If I have to start over, is there a way to get SME server to create just a regular linux partition, and not this software raid thing?  I'm running it in a VM that's on a Win2K server system with RAID 5, so I don't need SME server to be trying to do RAID.  It would make disk maintenance from within the VM much easier, as I could then use my usual Acronis tools.

*edit - ok, didn't read your post properly. If gparted doesn't support it i'm not sure I can help. Sorry!

I would reccomend giving it a try anyway.
