 Setting up Update Process
 Setting up repositories
not using ftp, http, or file for repos, skipping - Null is not a valid release or hasnt been released yet
 yum update not failed: 256

The system needs to be reconfigured after adding or removing software, or applying updates.

An automatic reboot will be initiated as part of this reconfiguration process  :(
-
A quick fix (which may resolve all your issues) would be to delete
 /home/e-smith/db/yum_repositories
 then do
 signal-event post-upgrade
 reboot

 This should reset the defaults

-
It sounds like a DNS issue.
Can you ping www.google.com from the console?
