Hi,
I've installed BackupPC (which looks like a great contrib!), but after working for a while (it backs up localhost and one remote host) it crashes out and won't restart. Messages log says this:
"Nov 2 13:51:48 sme-server runuser: runuser: cannot set groups: Operation not permitted
Nov 2 13:51:48 sme-server backuppc: BackupPC startup failed"
I've installed 3 times, the error keeps returning and I can't get rid of the error once it happens. It seems to occur after I play around with the config.pl files for a while. I'm still figuring out the syntax for the config files, I probably make a mistake every now and then, but even after returning to the original files BackupPC won't start.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Oz

Which contrib do you run? I made a backupPC contrib for SME you can find here (http://sme.firewall-services.com/spip.php?rubrique2) and I never noticed an error like this. I use it on 6 prod servers.

Hi,
I'm using smeserver-backuppc-1.0-5. I'm not sure what's causing the problems, like I said it seems to happen after editing the configuration. I can't really find anything useful about the error message with Google either. Can it have anything to do with the "su" command?
BackupPC has been running well now for the last 2 days, it's backing up SME servers via internet with SSH. Configuration is rather confusing, I find it difficult to backup only the folders I want!
Thanks for your reply,
Oz

Maybe you could send me your configuration file: daniel@firewall-services.com, I'll try to figure out what's going on. you should also send me all your per PC config. Don't forget to hide your host's names and passwords if you send it to me.
"Nov 2 13:51:48 sme-server runuser: runuser: cannot set groups: Operation not permitted
Nov 2 13:51:48 sme-server backuppc: BackupPC startup failed"
This message comes when lunching /etc/init.d/backuppc restart ? Or after changing the configuration throught the panel ?
