I need italian traslation so I create
- /var/lib/asterisk/sounds/it
- /var/lib/asterisk/sounds/dictate/it
- /var/lib/asterisk/sounds/digits/it
- /var/lib/asterisk/sounds/letters/it
- /var/lib/asterisk/sounds/phonetic/it
and then put inside translated .gsm files
Then I modified sip.conf and added “language=it”
It works for me!
Thanks Selintra

Glad you got it working guys.
btw - if you are using any IAX or ZAP channels you will also need to include the "language=" tuples in iax.conf and zapata.conf.
Asterisk "foreign" (i.e. non-US-English aka Alison) language support is growing all the time. Companies like westany www.westany.com offer professional grade prompts in a range of languages. There are also lots of GPL offerings, some good, some not so good. For more detail on fitting a language and what's available see here...

For SARK in the UK, we (Selintra) have our own UK English prompts which are studio recorded and GPL. New snippets can be recorded for a small fee.
Sorry - couldn't resist the advertisement (note to self - slap wrist!).

The above post was posted twice and I can't figure out how to delete so ignore this one.

Can I just edit the headers in this case and add the language=XX?
Thanks,

Sure can
