Title: Reinstall sme7 and preserve ibays, users and groups?

I have really fouled up mysql and would like to completely reset all mysql related settings to their defaults. I am not worried about losing data. the only tables i was using were sme7admin, i was not using hoarde. Is there an easy way to do this?

ok no suggestions on mysql reset ? . . . if i just do a reinstall from cd will my ibay data, users and groups be preserved?

Doing a upgrade install from CD will preserve everything, but also probably preserve your wrong settings. You can always try and see if it fixes things.

You don't tell us what you did, so we can't tell you what to reset.
It's easier for you to tell us what you did, than expect us to guess what you did.

There are posts here about resetting the root mysql password to default, search on mysql if that's what you want.

Otherwise the "general way" to reset a sme server is to uninstall all add on contribs (& hope they cleanly remove all setting changes they made at install time), and also you can delete all custom templates from
/etc/e-smith/templates-custom
& then do
signal-event post-upgrade
reboot

This assumes of course that you have not made customised changes elsewhere in the system, but we don't know as you have not told us.
