Post by: hinca on November 29, 2006, 05:55:02 AM
Hi all.

Im trying to install oscommerce on my server but I getting an error about register_globals is off.
Please help me out here. How can I set it to on.
Im a newbie so please write full path to files I have to edit. Or even better a full guide to make it work.

I tryed some of the how to´s for ver. 6.5 but Im not sure they work for ver 7.0

For osCommerce I use 2 iBays. One for the catalog, and a seperate password protected iBay one for the admin tool. It works fine that way. It requires some configuration of the admin tool iBay phpbasedir as follows;

Assuming the catalog is in an iBay named shop and the admin tool is in an iBay named shopadmin;

/sbin/e-smith/db accounts setprop shopadmin PHPBaseDir /home/e-smith/files/ibays/shopadmin/:/home/e-smith/files/ibays/shop/:/tmp
/sbin/e-smith/signal-event ibay-modify shopadmin
/sbin/e-smith/db accounts setprop shop PHPBaseDir /home/e-smith/files/ibays/shop/:/tmp
/sbin/e-smith/signal-event ibay-modify shop

Getting the configuration.php file settings is a bit tricky...

Woke up this morning and thought, lets help a friend who is starting a business. Now i need a little guidance in the right direction !!

Looked in de forums first to see what kind of shopping 'software' there is/was available and what kind of  experience was around.
Started experimenting with osCommerce. I've read about the 'big security' issue with the admininistrator part, so i decided to install the admin directory int shopadmin.
It went all fine untill.

In the shopadmin tool i received the following:
Catalog
Error: Catalog images directory does not exist: /shop/catalog/images/
Tools
Error: Backup directory does not exist. Please set this in configure.php.
The backup directory exists

Everywhere www:www has rw rights

The shopadmin/admin/includes/configure.php

Create the images dir, create the backup dir.  Then pay attention to security in part by following instruction here (http://www.oscommerce.info/docs/english/e_post-installation.html).

chaloner's setup makes sense in helping secure Administration.  Read more about the setup and search oscommerce forum (http://forums.oscommerce.com/index.php?showforum=15).  If you are going to offer a live storefront to the world this is well worth it. Think security, I know from experience ;-)
