I'm also interested in this issue, as I want to try www.compiere.org on my SME 7.1 server.

Any one, please?

No I did never try, but perhaps this can be of some help, SME Server is based on CentOS 4: http://www.oracle-base.com/articles/10g/Oracle10gR2GridControlInstallationOnRedHatAndCentOS.php

A few quick thoughts:
Keep in mind that a lot of the configuration is done using templates (see the Developers Guide for that), so for changes to be consistent over reboots and other package installs make a copy of the configuration templates in the templates-custom tree and modify the copied template files to implement the necessary settings, users can be created using the server-manager.

Another issue might be that Oracle need xwindows which is not supplied on a SME server and is not a component that is encouraged to be installed on the system as this might impose security leaks...

Yes, it's almost a joke to say that Oracle supports linux.

They have this "quick installation guide": http://download-east.oracle.com/docs/html/B15521_01/toc.htm

And yes, they do indeed demand Xwindow, but I've heard that you could get around this issue by sending Xwindow to another XWindow server like http://x.cygwin.com/

I simlpy can't under stand why a Database server should need the newest nVidia SLI graphic card for the installation process
