Hi, either I am being stupid or there is something wrong with my installation of e-smith (4.1)
I want to get out of the console screen back to the prompt but I can't? How can I also change the setting so I have to enter admin and password to enter the console? I have
I thought I just went down to exit but when I do that the screen goes black for a few seconds and then the console flashes up again.
I have tried to upgrade to SME 5.1 but half way through 'Transferring install image to hard drive' I get a message saying 'An error occured transferring the install image to your hard drive. You are problay out of disk space.'
I have a 20gig HD and about 18.5gig free? Any ideas? Could it be a faulty CD ISO?
Also I noticed my DNS IP address is the internal address, is it possible to set this to the external IP address? (I'm not sure if the www IP address that I can change is the DNS address) I am under the impression that you need to DNS IP address to host web sites over the internet (is this right?) My thinking is that if I supply my DNS IP address and someone elses, maybe my ISP I would be able to host my own sites.
Would appriciate some feedback on these. I'm new to Linux so go easy on me :o)
Thanks

Choose the "Configure" option and change the console setting from "auto" to "login".

You can get another prompt by using ALT F2 (or F3 or F4).

I would verify the ISO md5sum if you haven't already. I personally had a lot of trouble getting a good ISO image to burn on my older PC with NERO software. If you have another Linux box I can show you how to do a network install from the ISO image. Contact me offline.

You can host internet sites over the internet without making internal changes to DNS. You might check out one of the DNS services mentioned in the manual.

You can host your own websites -- RTFM.
