When trying to do a fresh install of 7.1 I get hda: lost interrupt. I know on previous install 7.0 I was able to select either smp or server up, but that was only after having installed. In this case with 7.1 I am not able to actually install the program because it hangs at lost interrpt. Help!

BIOS?
Does SME7.0 re-install? If it does then just abort
it soon after the white penguin's smp/up stage.
Then try SME7.1 soonest afterwards...

Can you clarify this on how to install it after I select /up

You've confused me.
The idea of trying to re-install SME7.0 was to trial your BIOS & drive(s).
If they obliged then things are OK and you can abort the install.
While everything is still 'working' install SME7.1 soonest afterwards.
When SME installs from new it initialises every drive it can get its hands on
ie it doesn't really matter what is on your drives.

I have no problem installing 7.0. However when I boot up with the 7.1 CD and it asks me to type in sme <ENTER> to install or upgrade. It gets to a point where it says hda: lost interrrupt. I can't install past that point. Mybe I am missing something becasuse I have no idea what soonest afterwasrds is? Is theis a new program I should be looking for, or do you mean soon afterwards. If you mean the later then I still can't get past lost interrupt.

!?
Soonest afterwards = continue on and do it straightaway.
Did you check the ISO checksum?
What about the installation's own ISO disc check option?
I haven't run my own SME7.1 upg yet (tomorrow).
