Title: dyndns
Post by: skydivers on January 17, 2007, 03:28:31 PM
Hi there,

At home I have a cable connection with a dynamic IP. I am using a D-LINK router as well. Behind this router I want to use a sme server in server/gateway mode.

My question is, I'd like to use a dyndns account which i can configure in sme. But I can only set up my dyndns account on sme when I choose "USE DHCP" on the external interface configuration.
What I'd like to do is configure the external interface configuration as "USE static IP address". (so I don't have to set up DHCP on the DLINK router)

Example:
WAN 215.234.?.? ------ Router 192.168.0.1 ----------- 192.168.0.2 SME Server

Is it still possible to use dyndns with this configuration?

SME server's builtin dynamic DNS configuration only works if the SME server WAN connection is directly connected to the Internet.

http://ddclient.sourceforge.net/?page=3

this maybe of some help to you.

Hi skydivers,

Couldn't you set up dyndns in the router? Then forward the ports you want to the SME Server :D f you are using a cable modem why not just do away with the router, SME will do the same job on its own in server/gateway

Regards,
Del

Yep your right, going to try on that one. My router doesn't support to setup dyndns.

Thanx all!

Even though when reading this it's probably possible to get it working...
