I have purchased static IP's with my DSL line and would like to setup a E-Smith server and a DNS server for it.
Can someone recommend a good (meaning free) DNS server package to use with E-Smith? Something that is easy to setup and manage would be great.
Thanks ahead for any tips,
Lee

do you mean something like dns2go or dyndns?

I believe dns2go or dydns are for those with servers hanging off of a dynamic ip setting from an ISP account (ie. cable modem service).
I have static IP's. I simply want to have similar dns services but running on my own dns server.
Any help would be appreciated,

What do you mean by DNS server??
The e-smith box is a DNS server. (I think, or it is a relay).
Are you talking DNS resolution for your windows network, or DNS resolution for the Internet??

E-Smith has DNS services built-in. But if you need a 3rd part host for your DNS records, I like ZoneEdit (www.zoneedit.com). Free for up to five domains (zones), with additional domains and other services (like web redirection and backup mail service) available for pretty low rates. I use them to host the DNS for my homenet (which runs on E-Smith).

Sorry for not being clear. I mean DNS resolution for the internet.
I want to be able to have a bunch of my domain names, for example:
www.a.com
www.b.com
www.c.com
www.d.com
be resolved to my static IP and DNS server at home. That DNS server will then send the traffic to one of two other web site servers depending on the domain name.
That is, www.a.com and www.b.com may go to server #1 and www.c.com and www.d.com may go to server #2.
So, there will be 3 servers total: one external DNS, two external website servers.
Also, I do not need any kind of local network internet access to the outside world, just web hosting for the outside world.
There must be "prepackaged" DNS management software avaiable for Linux that is as easy to use, setup, and manage like E-Smith? I've seen Netmax and other software for sale, but I am looking for any freely available solutions first.
Thanks,
Lee
ps. I am aware of the company: www.mydomain.com
Some domain name pointing or redirection capability like theirs would be work but is not real DNS. Plus I wouldn't be able to use IMP webmail on my E-smith box going that route.

Actually you can. I use MyDomain.com to host my Domains. I also have to use dyndns.org to give me a dynamic DNS account.
However, you could definitely tell mydomain.com (mydns.com) to forward all requests for your domain to a static IP vs. an dynamic host name.
FYI - It will also allow you to have all e-mail forward to a server of your choice as well. (Your static IP address)
I hope this helps!
Let me know if you would like to discuss further.

named is included and easy to setup. Though you may find more value in using the serverlink dns package if your managing alot of domain or have trouble configuring named for your purposes.
