Title: DLINK DG528T Gbit NIC and Hex edit
Post by: cjohnson_uk on January 29, 2007, 11:02:31 PM
I'm new to SME, this is my first install but I have been using various GNU/Linux distros for about 5 years now.
I've just installed a copy of SME7.1 and it doesn't appear to recognise the DLink DG528T.  There is a post that says you can use a realtek chipset drive if you just modify the id in the binary but I don't know what editor to use.

I tried hexedit but its not installed!  With no network connection I can't get it easily either!

Any suggestions how I can do this (other than buying a new card).

Also any suggestions as to what Gbit PCI cards there are available (in the UK) that work with SME?  The above post suggests that this card will be supported when the kernel goes to 2.6.10.  As its on 2.6.9 now any ideas how long before its supported natively?

I used this. Don't bother. I got daily crashes. No error logs, just an empty screen. It did work but only when i transfered up to 60kbps data trough it.

Thanks.  I dragged an old 3com card out of another box and am using that at the moment.

Same here. I had problem with twin realtec cards and then bought DLink DGE-528T which caused crashes. Then i found an old computer with 3com card and installed that. And it works. I never knew that i'll have such problems with buying a simple NIC.

Wanted to install 3com in the first place but i can't find any. Too bad i gave all of them away.  :?
