Title: Pull email

I currently access my email from my ISPs webmail server via their horde webmail interface.  As most of my email access is from home I'd like to pull it down onto my SME server BUT still access it from the server rather than pop it to my PC as I often access email from either my mac, linux box or windows box.

Ideally I'd like to be able to still access my email when away from home as well, either by leaving a copy on the webmail server or by remotely accessing the SME box.

Is this an easy task for someone starting with SME or more involved?

Well you'll need a mail retreival contrib eg. fetchmail (http://www.schirrms.net/sme/) and if you want to access it from server use the horde webmail interface (SME has one like your isp's server) or use imap.

That should solve all your requests.

If you aren't at home, shouldn't you be able to access your network through vpn access and the your email from there if left on server?

Why complicate things if he can use horde webmail. The only thing i don't know is what difference it would make if he uses his server's webmail insted of his ISP's.

Good point, I guess if he checks his email from different boxes, the VPN complicates the retrieval instead of webmail...

I wanted to to get access to ISP webmail as it means I don't need to leave my home PC switched on wasting power and adding to my carbon footprint.   (eek!)  

If I'm away on holiday I might not access email all week and might not even access it at all, but If I do need to check for new mail then it will be better to do it from their interface where their techs will have been looking after the servers each day.

When I'm at home I want to be able to access ALL my emails locally from my SME server from any one of my Windows/Mac/Linux boxes an lan speeds preferably using IMAP with SME as the outgoing server

When I'm not at home I want to be able to check for new emails sitting in my mailbox at my ISP.

Hope thats not too muddy.

Well this will be hard. You can fetch all your mails from your isp's server to your home server or you can leave them where they are.

The only solution i can think of is if you fetch mail from your isp's server and transfer it to sme but leave the original on isp's server. But you would have duplicate mail one on sme and one on isp's server.

Maybe someone else has a better idea?
