Title: Modem recommedations?
Post by: John Lewis on February 22, 2002, 06:37:19 AM
After spending hours trying to get an internal PCI modem to work, I've found out it is a winmodem, so won't work.

Any recommendations on what modems I should use?  Internal are preferable for space and power issues, but ultimately, price and compatibility are the most important.

What are you all using?

Thanks.

I use external modems - as you will hear from others I'm sure - they are much easier to set up and troubleshoot.  LED's for status and diagnostics and a power button for 'resetting' the modem if needed instead of having to re-boot the whole server.

I have two servers setup with Viking K56 external modems - which use a Rockwell chipset.  They work great - no problems.

Let us know how you make out.

Best modem period is....

US Robotics V.Everything Modem.

It isn't cheap, but you get what you pay for. Of course you can get it cheaper if you don't buy direct.
