What do I have to change in SME to allow outlook on a windows XP accessing a hosted exchange server in the web?

Hosted Exchange Server providers typically utilize RPC over HTTPS. Just configure your Outlook clients to match. Of course your hosted Exchange provider should be telling you this. :wink:
