Hi Folks,
I have done some digging and testing on this issue without success.
One problem I run into with every SAIL (Asterisk) installation is voicemail e-mail attachment volume...they are always too quiet and force users to radically turn up their PC audio volume controls to be able to hear the messages.
I found a voicemail.conf directive (volgain=0.0) that is supposed to resolve this issue. However, I suspect it is only available in Asterisk 1.4 and doesn't do anything at all for me.
Has anyone come across this issue? or resolved it?
TIA,

This has been an issue of contention for some time. The Volgain patch was originally done on a 1.2 system. However, someone at Digium decided that it was a "new" feature and so couldn't be fitted to 1.2 because 1.2 is a stable release (don't ask, - just don't ask).
That's why it's in 1.4 but not 1.2 as far as I can figure it out. You can read about it here...

So, you'll just have to up the volume control on your PC I'm afraid, unless/until we move SAIL to 1.4.

Thanks much for the straight answer, at lest. ;-)

Changing...
format=wav49 to format=wav
in /etc/asterisk/voicemail.conf helps but you get bigger wav files.
Also, how can I make this change permanent?
