Title: Clients accessin the net SLOW

My e-smith server is a gateway-server. When my clients connect to the net, they are laggin. I have a clable connection. When it was the other way around, my win system the gateway and my e-smith server was just in server-mode my connectionw as WAY faster. Like 100 times faster. I mean its super LAGS. The e-smith server doesnt lag. But the clients do, any ideas? Maybe squidguard? maybe I conf file I have to edit? Maybe the clients have a restrcitions of bandwidth?

Did you try anything like "top" on the server to see what programs could be slowing down your server? That way you can see what could be causing the problem. Another tool you could use is "iptraf" to see which connections are made. Try to find a little more information about this problem! If you do a download on the server, is it also laggin?

Just a few suggestions to find the problem!

The server is fine. I connect to a site download something, downloads good. But when a client does it, it goes SLOW. Slower than a 56k. I type top, and nothing is slowing the comp.

Could it be a networking issue between the workstations and the server?
For example, is it possible to directly link one of the workstations to the server for testing purposes? That way, hubs, switches and dodgey cable can all be tested.

You might want to investigate swapping NICs around to see if things change.
