Hello,
Previously I used SME 5.0, with succes. some weeks ago I upgraded to a beta 4 of 5.1.2. Sinds then i had problems accessing the the server i-bays. I'm not a linux expert, but i tried to solve this. I screwed up the server. Now i installed the final of 5.1.2 from scratch. But the problem became worse.
on the beta I could access the server using a login/password, but now the server rejects me directly without asking a login. Internet access, SSH, and FTP works fine. The Clients configurarion isn't altered at all.
I wan't the users to acces the files directory (read/write) without the need to give a username and/or password.
Configuration:
Server: SME 5.1.2. server and gateway
Clients: windows 95 through XP
Workgroup matches those of the network, it pops up in the network list.
DHCP: disabled
workgroup and domain controller: disabled.
roaming profiles: disabled.
I-bay setup:
group: everyone
user acc.: write: group: read: everyone
public ftp: Local network (no pass...)
CGI, PHP...: disabled.

in 5.1.2 microsoft networking login MUST be the same as user accounts/passwords on the server. No users no access. You will have to go back to 5.0 if you dn't want user accounts. It must be a "feature" of the move to samba 2.4.

Hello,
I solved the problem. Now every windows client on the lan can use the ibays without the need to login.
i changed the /etc/samba/smb.conf file.
make sure the following settings are set correctly:
Guest ok = yes
security = share
reboot the server and clients.
Maybe someone can build a how-to to change this settings trough the templates.

Exellent! - However you should do it the e-smith way by creating a fragment in /etc/e-smith/custom-templates or your change will be overwritten next time you update something that requires a rewrite of smb.conf - like the creation of an i-bay
