Title: Freshclam: Update failed

Once a week or so our SME 7.1.3 mail gateway stops working. ClamAV is not updated and at that point no mail is delivered at all, except freshclam error mails once an hour.

Error mail content:

2007-04-11 21:34:24.288217500 Received signal: wake up
2007-04-11 21:35:29.307985500 ERROR: Can't lock database directory: /var/clamav

Restarting ClamAv doesn't work. After a little research, removing the lock-file in /var/clamav followed by a reboot makes thing work again. For a week or so...

I even reinstalled the entire server. Even then it only worked for a few days.

Can anyone help me with this? I wouldn't like to add a reboot cron script.......................

Salmoneus,

  First.... I might post this on buzilla if I were you.  When you do I would be curious about few things:

  1.  Timing - When does it fail, is their a weekly regularity? or a certain time of day.  I would assume that you freshclam process runs in cron.daily

  2.  What does you clamav configuration look like:

       db configuration show clamav

  3.  What happens if you do a

       signal-even email-update

       Does that resolve things? or must you remove the lockfile and then to a email-update? or do you really need the lockfile removed and a reboot.

Please post the bugzilla link after you get this one in there and if you need any help with that..... post answers here and I'll help you get it into b-zilla.

If you look closely Darrell, you'll see that the log messages and failure mode are different.

Salmoneus, please have a look at the following bug report:

http://bugs.contribs.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2743

and then create a bugzilla login (if you don't have one already), and add a description of your problem there. You can help us to find and fix the root cause of your problem.

BTW, freshclam says ClamAV 0.90.2 is available. Wonder if that version fixes the problem?

I did a search for "clam" and "lock" and that got me nothing...
