Title: Determining mirror versions
Post by: jabell on April 19, 2007, 06:50:54 AM
Is there a way of determining what RC version the various ISO images are on the mirrors?  I want to download the latest but at most the images only describe themselves as 7.1, and at nearly 500mb I would rather find out beforehand than after downloading. I'm after version 7.1.3
thanks
John

7.1 is the latest iso available. 7.1.1, 7.1.2 and 7.1.3 were not released as iso's.  You must load 7.1 then use yum to upgrade to 7.1.3.

7.2 will be released as the next iso.

Thanks for the clarification.  I have now searched for the upgrade 'files' or a Howto on upgrading via YUM, but I must be really thick to not find any info on this.  Are you saying that after installing 7.1, that YUM will install directly from the net somewhere, or should I be finding an update patch on the mirrors that I can then copy to the SME server?  What is the procedure for installing this upgrade presuming I have managed to locate the patch file?

All I see there are 478mb files, or a small one called smeserver-7.1.iso.zsync   but I have no idea what that is.
Thanks for your help!
John

jabell just install SME 7.1 and then run "yum install" on your console.
Or go to server-manager under software installer and click on update.

THis may seem like a silly question to some, but why not release the latest version to an ISO file?  It would save a lot of download for users that have a download limit and cap.

This has been discused before...
You would have to build a new iso for all the updates that are published, not just SME but CentOS also.

But you can make an iso and it will be published if you want to supply the new versions.
